About YACAT
The Trust was formed in 2016 when Huish Primary School sponsored the opening and growth of Primrose Lane Primary School in Yeovil. Milford Junior School joined the trust in September 2019, and since then we have worked together to improve outcomes for the 1000 children and their families whom we serve.
We are ambitious for our children. Our role is to nurture, teach and challenge them to learn, develop and realise their potential. We place great value in supporting children to achieve in reading, writing and Maths, and recognise the role this plays in overcoming disadvantage. High outcomes in our Trust extend beyond this core: we are responsible for tomorrow’s scientists, musicians and sports-people. We seek for our children to become responsible members of their communities and to develop strong values: to become exceptional citizens.
We believe that collaboration between our schools is key to our continued success. It is by working collectively as a family of schools that we become both stronger and more impactful for our children. Collaboration for us does not equate to a loss of identity. We celebrate the individuality of each school in our Trust whilst seeking to benefit from commonalities and a shared purpose: the improvement of teaching and learning.
Central to our beliefs is the principle of partnering with schools in our immediate locality. As a trust committed to improving outcomes for children in our local area, we aspire to work with schools where we can engage in face-to-face collaboration. We believe this allows us to work together more effectively and to understand the unique challenges and context in each of our schools.
With more than 190 school-based staff, supported by our Shared Service Team, we have evolved efficient school-based and central systems to ensure that both human resources and financial resources are deployed effectively. This achieves good value for money. The pressure on school budgets has never been greater; by working together, we are able to increase the impact of every pound spent. Our Shared Services Team aims to achieve best value for money and address non-education functions for our schools, allowing Heads of School to focus their time and expertise on teaching and learning.
We see our schools as central to the communities that they serve. The challenges facing both these, and the schools that serve them, are complex and interrelated. Our schools, like all educational establishments, have had to change and adapt to face these challenges.
As a trust, we see our central mission to improve the outcomes and life chances for children in our locality. To better reflect this aim, the Huish Academy Trust was renamed as The Yeovil Area Community Academy Trust. This move is more than just a change in name - it represents the trust's current role working with schools, along with our ambition to partner with local schools with the shared aim of improving outcomes for the children in our locality. In the next phase, for the growth of our trust, we are seeking three partner schools to work alongside us and help to shape our response to the shared agenda and challenges that we, as a community of schools, face.
